Flowers in the Attic

The plants in the attic are wintering over just fine. I have some begonias in bloom, above, and a few sprigs of Christmas cactus have flowered. Whenever a stem comes off a cactus I root it and stick it in any plant with empty dirt! They have very small roots and can exist with almost any other plant. They're doing quite well this winter.

  1. HI, I LOVE YOUR CACTUS. MINE DIDN'T BLOOM THIS CHRISTMAS LIKE LAST YEAR. MAYBE IT'S BECAUSE I KEPT IT INSIDE ALL YEAR. I LOOKED IT OVER THIS MORNING AND AS BIG AS IT HAS GOTTEN I NOTICE IT HAS TWO LITTLE BUDS POPPING OUT ON A COUPLE OF THE STEMS. FINGERS CROSSED. THEN LAST SEPT.. MY DAUGHTERS' BEST FRIEND GAVE ME A WHITE ORCHID PLANT. I REALLY DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO TAKE CARE OF THE PLANT. AFTER A LONG TIME, THE FLOWERS FELL OFF. I WAS SO SURE THAT THE PLANT WAS DYING BECAUSE THE ENDS OF THE STEMS WERE TURNING BLACK SO I PUT IT OUT ON THE FRONT PORCH AND MORE OR LESS FORGOT ABOUT IT. THEN WE WERE ALL SET FOR A HARD FREEZE A FEW WEEKS AGO SO I BROUGHT IT IN THE HOUSE AND SAT IT ON THE DINNINGROOM TABLE. GAVE IT A DRINK AND MORE OR LESS IGNOR IT. THEN ABOUT A WEEK AGO I TOOK A LOOK AT IT AND BINGO IT WAS GETTING BUDS ON IT AND THIS WEEK IT'S IN FULL BLOOM. I'M JUST TICKLED PINK.
I JUST READ ON MARES BLOG THAT KATIES HOUSE BURNED TO THE GROUND. WHO KNOWS, JUST MAYBE SHE'LL MOVE TO N.C. YET. THEY LOVE IT AT THE BEACH. THEY ARE STAYING AT A ANIMAL FRIENDLY MOTEL.THEIR MISSING ONE CAT.IT WAS A BLESSING THEY GOT OUT OK.
TIME FOR BED. I DO PEEK IN ON YOU. I JUST HAVEN'T BEEN WELL SINCE THOSE BAD FALLS.MY BACK IS STILL GIVING ME TROUBLE. SO HAVEN'T HAD MUCH TO SAY.
    HUGS, GRANNY
