A Bit of Artandcolour On a Walk Today

Another variety slow to lose its leaves, this reddish orange tree really popped with the blue sky behind it.

Even barren trees can delight my eyes when they're reflected in a small creek near the center of town. Definitely click on this photo to see it larger! The shadow of the wooden boardwalk I was on creates interesting dark stripes on the Sumac branches at the bottom left.

A longer view of the tree at the top. Blue and orange are a great combination.

As I was shooting these photos on the boardwalk, this red Dragonfly stopped by to see what I was doing. I'm not sure if all Dragonflies are as friendly as these red ones, but this type will land right on your hand if you put it out for them. They're not at all timid around people.

Even in this overexposed image, the "pitter-patter" of light and dark on the barren trees, and the perfectly blue reflection of the sky in the creek, really give the "feel" of this warm, autumn day.

The setting sun at this time of year makes for limbs almost as colorful as the remaining leaves.

Reflections and striped shadows will grab my eye every time.

Bonus Shots, Autumn 2009—More Artandcolour   : )
These next three photos are from Fall 2009, but I thought would fill out this post nicely.

Country setting for sure!

This yellow Mullein was weaving to-and-fro in the breeze as I shot this field last year.

  1. The thing that has always fascinated me about this time of year is the change in lighting that occurs as we get closer to winter. You've captured the effect perfectly in these pictures. Very cool !

  2. The shadows are so severe in the afternoons now. Everything is more dramatic. Luckily the temps have still been in the 60s in the afternoons. Thanks!

  5. SO HAPPY! A couple more "colorful" pics to add to my phone slide show! I see why you love the reflections and patterns the shadows make...looks like nature's version of YOUR art!! :)
If you stop by my blog, I don't have such interesting photos, BUT you will see what we have for difference in the weather just now!
    Sleep well everyone..

  6. Mare: thanks for the compliment about my photos looking like my art. Developing a discernible style without being repetitive is the hardest thing to do. I actually find it easier to not think about it anymore and just create what is appealing to ME and they seem to fall in line. Thank You!

  7. Love your latest batch of autumn photos. Each season really does have a special uniqueness all its own.

It's funny going to Vegas with the new time change and spending so much time in casino I didn't really notice the early darkness until I got back home this week. I almost went to bed at seven the other night. lol
